I just finished seeing a patient on whom I did an open re-do Nissen fundoplication about 2 weeks ago. He had been on methadone 5 times a day and about 10 norco per day as well for chronic joint pain and fibromyalgia. He had seen every type of specialist in the area.
Why are so many women getting breast cancer? Another young patient in the office today with a new diagnosis of breast cancer discovered with mammography. It is an early one, and after treatment she will be fine, but it is so disruptive to a person’s psyche and sense of well being. Her
Traditional medical practices are struggling. Insurance reimbursement is so low and paper work and bureaucracy is so high that many primary care physicians allocate only 10 to 15 minutes per visit. A quick, usually pharmaceutically based treatment plan is instituted and the patient is sent on her way. At my Sacramento bioidentical
There’s no way to be thin without exercising. There’s no way to be your ideal weight without exercising. For 99% of people, there’s no way to eat yourself into health. You have to exercise in order to be your proper weight.
I would say that 80% of the people we see have a weight problem. When you ask them what’s bothering them the most, that shows up for almost everybody — that they’re too heavy or they feel like they’re too heavy.
A lot of people have been completely sedentary all their life, and never really worked out at all. If that sounds like you, I just want you to walk every day, even if it’s just a half hour every day. Diabetes is a scourge that is wreaking havoc in our country and creating immeasurable damage to our collective health and wealth. It’s estimated that one-third of children born since the year 2000 will grow up to become diabetics. Fortunately, diabetes is fully preventable. Our lifestyle choices and food selections continue to fuel this devastating disease. Obesity, a growing epidemic, sets the stage for inflammation and toxicity that can tax our abilities to manage our endocrine system efficiently and this failure oftentimes leads to diabetes, cancer and heart disease.
Stress is a common feature of the American lifestyle. We are all bombarded with stimuli and deadlines each day. The body’s natural hormonal response to stress is calls for an increased production of cortisol from the adrenal glands. This hormone is very important, and it is produced at the expense of other hormones in our body. Hormones like progesterone, estrogen and testosterone and the chemicals used to create them are “stolen” to create the cortisol that our stressed out bodies crave.
