Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

October 28, 2008

Dear BodyLogicMD,

What benefits can I expect from bioidentical hormone therapy? I was taken off my hormone therapy almost 10 years ago and I am interested in learning more about hormone therapy options.

Dear D.L,

That is a great question and one that I know many other patients are thinking about or have asked their doctors. When prescribing bioidentical hormone therapy, we are essentially helping patients alleviate symptoms, improve their quality of life, and most importantly, helping to prevent many diseases.

Using bioidentical hormones (which are the exactly the same in terms of structure as the hormones that your body produces) will help reduce the risk of heart disease along with appropriate lifestyle changes. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy also helps prevent diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease, and helps improve the condition in people that already suffer with those medical issues.

For all the women out there, it’s important to know that balancing your hormones and understanding how estrogen dominance increases your risk of breast cancer are important aspects of  bioidentical hormone therapy treatment.

Finally, hormone therapy is not just for treating symptoms of menopause and should be considered for almost every woman.

Thank you!
