BodyLogicMD Q&A Tuesdays – Thyroid Hormone and Adrenal Function

October 21, 2008

Dear BodyLogicMD,

How does adrenal fatigue correlate with thyroid disease since symptoms overlap?

Is it possible to wean off of thyroid hormone replacement and regain normal thyroid function if you follow an adrenal fatigue treatment regimen?

Thanks!
Donna

All of the body’s hormones affect each other.

Your hormones are like a musical symphony – the music won’t sound beautiful if one part of the orchestra isn’t playing properly. This is how the body acts when one or more of its hormones are out of balance.

It is possible that you may no longer need thyroid hormone replacement once your hormones are optimized. You need to determine your hormone levels by taking a saliva, blood or urine test. Then, under the supervision of a hormone therapy physician, you can work to stabilize all of your hormones with bioidentical hormone therapy.

It is important to note that lower levels of thyroid hormone are a part of aging, just as adrenal and ovarian dysfunction increase as we age.

Good Luck!

One Response to BodyLogicMD Q&A Tuesdays – Thyroid Hormone and Adrenal Function

  1. Doris says:

I am desparate in finding help with my hypothyroid. I was diagnosed with this and my test was at 13.5! I am doing everything to lose weight, but I just went back to the doctor and I gained more weight. I was always a size 4-6, now I am at a 14! I had a hysterectomy in April, and that has been a rollercoster ride as well. I am trying to find a doctor that is a specialist that will take insurance.

    I appreciate your response.

    Sincerely,
    Doris Trail
