Top 10 Tips for Managing Hot Flashes

hot-flash-womanWe all want to know how it feels… a hot flash is like carrying around your own personal Summer.  All of a sudden, outside of your control, you start to feel your temperature rise.  It’s like your internal furnace is turned on high… and there is not a thing you can do about it – you’re burning up from the inside out and no matter what you do, you cannot seem to cool down.  Beads of sweat start to collect on your forehead and in other places we don’t have to mention…  your body is not cooperating with you.  All you know (and hope no one else knows!) is that you are having a HOT FLASH.  Thanks a lot menopause!

To help you better manage these little infernos, we’d like to share our Top 10 Tips to Managing Hot Flashes:

  • Eat a low-fat diet
  • Wear cotton since it is much more breathable than other fabrics
  • Avoid hot beverages and spicy foods
  • Dress in layers and go sleevelss
  • Avoid caffeine – drink Green Tea instead
  • Manage stress better – use relaxation techniques like Yoga or breathing exercises
  • Incorporate more exercise into your daily routine
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Have your hormone levels tested and use BHRT if your hormone levels are out of balance
  • Smile and realize that you are not alone in this struggle
