Tax Day – You Are in Control of Your Cortisol Levels

April 15, 2009

stressed out on tax dayToday is THE deadline – some call it the “annual stress test for Americans.”  Everyone’s cortisol levels are at an all time high… we are dealing with many stressors in today’s world.  We live in a world that is much more fast paced than it used to be.  About 3o years ago, we handled 600 pieces of information a day, today, we are asked to handle close to 600,000 per day!  There are many stressors in our life that did not exist  the stock market is up or down, the value of our houses is down, we don’t have enough time in the day…

Cortisol is also known as the stress hormone. When we have too much of it or not enough, depression can rear it’s ugly head.  We also see that high levels of the hormone cortisol can create agitation, increased belly fat, insomnia and sugar cravings.  Conversely, low levels can be associated with inability to handle stress, extreme fatigue, low libido and mood instability.

All of your hormones work together to help you deal with life – much life a symphony, when one of them is “out of tune” – too low or too high, the result is something you do not want.  So, instead of dealing with depression, fatigue, sleeplessness, irritability, mood swings or any of the other unpleasant symptoms of hormonal imbalance, do your body (and your friends and family) a favor and get your hormone levels tested.  If it’s discovered that your levels are out of balance, you can TAKE CONTROL and get them back “in tune.”

Although we don’t have a lot of control over things like paying taxes, we can control our hormone levels and how we are prepared to respond to the stressors of every day life.

Only 365 days until you have to pay taxes again…
