FDA Approved Bioidentical Hormones

We’ve mentioned that the FDA has approved over 20 bioidentical hormones and now want to share some of the hormones on that list, specifically those meant to treat menopause symptoms. We’ve also included some synthetic hormones on the list in order to keep you informed on the hormones out there.
Remember that it is never a good idea to take any hormones without first being tested so that you can be sure about which hormones (if any) your body needs to achieve balance and overall wellness. Once you are on hormone therapy, follow-up tests are also vital to keep track of your progress and the effect of the hormones on your body. Furthermore, we always suggest bioidentical hormones over the less natural and more dangerous synthetic hormones. Bioidentical hormones are identical to the hormones in your body and can be completely utilized without the dangerous side effects of synthetic or non-bioidentical hormones. what is major cause of insomnia in post menopausal period?

Insomnia hormone imbalance or sleeplessness is both a cause and effect. Basically, hormone imbalance resulting from perimenopause, menopause, adrenal fatigue or any of its other symptoms, may cause sleeplessness which in turn worsens the hormone imbalance. Sleeplessness also has many other non-hormone related causes. These hormonal and non-hormonal causes of insomnia include:
Chronic Stress
Night Sweats
Adrenal Fatigue
Anxiety
Dietary habits
Insomnia in women causes hormone imbalance and worsens the symptoms of menopause because the body needs sleep for the body’s hormones to do their job properly.

Are non FDA approved bioidentical hormones prescribed by BodyLogicMD phycisians?

Hormonal imbalances contribute to the risk of stroke, heart attack and even breast cancer and when used properly, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can reduce this risk. Critics argue that the safety of bioidentical hormones should be confirmed by the FDA, and in fact the FDA has approved over 20 natural bioidentical hormone products including estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
Compounding pharmacies that make bioidentical hormones are regulated by state and local government, not the FDA. However, those recommended by BodyLogicMD are regulated by the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) and accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board, for high quality assurance.

I am 60, both menopausal and on thyroid medication due to surgical removal since 54, and have had significant hair loss since. Thyroid levels are perfect with Armour Thyroid. Considering bHRT to try to combat excess hair loss. Conventional Gyno feels that risk of HRT (synthetic) outweighs the possible benefit I might realize and doesn’t recommend any long term use of either. Also feels that if I take either for 5 years (to minimize risk), the hair loss will return when stopped and perhaps be worse. Do you agree?
Hair loss can be caused by many different hormone abnormalities, which is why testing of your hormone levels is very important. In my practice I am frequently able to identify patients’ hormonal problems with comprehensive testing. Many patients find relief from these hormonal imbalances with treatment. I do not recommend synthetic hormones for patients in my practice, as these have been shown to increase the risk of breast cancer and heart disease in women. Bioidentical hormone replacement has not been shown to increase these risks, since bioidentical hormones are the same exact hormones as what is inside the body. Bioidentical hormone replacement has been shown to be safer and more effective than synthetic hormones.

I’ve been on bi-est natural estrogen – 2.5 MG and 100 progesterone caplets. If I switch to a gel. What dose would I need to match the same?

I am nearing 60 and have struggled with menopausal symptoms (primarily hot flashes), and have gained 50 lbs over the last couple of years, all around middle and seen a sharp increase in skin changes. It’s like i am aging overnight. Could my problem be due to high estrogen and not enough progesterone? I am struggling to lose weight and heard belly fat can lead to excess estrogen.
are FDA approved bio idetnical hormones similar to compunded? I have started seeing an endocrinolgist in austin Texas who states she does not use sythetics and uses FDA approved, branded products that are bio-identical from plants. the advantage for me is that I have good health, few menapausal symptoms (I take care of myself) AND they are covered by my insurance since they are a prescrition format. compunded are not covered. One blogger on another website who was a doctor suggested that the benefit from customized compunding may not be worth the cost if you can get desired results with a branded form. this doctor I have contacted manages symptoms compared to blood. Being an endocrinologist, she check thyroid and other areas with blood tests. Your thoughts about these “branded” FDA approved bio-identicals. You list them on this web page above. It is very difficult to find inoframtion about them. the arguments seem to rage between synthetic and compunded. but if these “branded” ones are an option, that can be much more affordable to a lot of women.
