Living Longer, Better: Aging Gracefully with Bioidentical Hormones

February 9, 2009

As life expectancy climbs a little bit every generation, a shift has been made from focusing on how to live longer, better.  The thoughts of nursing homes, wheel chairs and oxygen tanks scare us as we age.  At what point does quality of life supersede quantity of life?  We don’t want to die young and we don’t want to be a burden.

The good news is that aging isn’t the same for us as it was for our parents or grandparents; we have options.   Science is finally focusing on how to maintain quality of life at the same time as procuring quantity of life.  They call it anti-aging medicine and natural bioidentical hormones are among the most exciting prospect in the industry.

In a recent article on WorldHealth.net titled “Bio-Identical Hormones, Oprah and Some Important Facts,” Dr. Sangeeta Pati, an expert in the field of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy discussed the risk of bioidenticals, the lack of long-term research on bioidenticals and compounding pharmacies in relation to Oprah Winfrey’s recent shows on the topic.  Within this article, Dr. Pati makes the following points:

  • Hormonal imbalances contribute to the risk of breast cancer, stroke and heart attack.
  • The FDA has approved over 20 bioidentical hormone products.
  • Compounding pharmacies are great sources for bioidentical hormone doses that are not available from other pharmacies.

If you listen to one thing Oprah has stated about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, it is this:  take control and do your research.
