Interested in Bioidentical Hormones? Do Your Research!

February 4, 2009

We have posted several responses to comments regarding the safety of bioidentical hormones and compounding pharmacies in response to Dr. Lauren Streicher’s statements on Oprah’s “Suzanne Somers:  The Bioidentical Hormone Follow-Up.”  It comes to a point where it can seem self-serving and what we want to assure our patients and those researching bioidentical hormone replacement therapy of our sincerity.  We believe whole-heartedly in this treatment, so many of our friends are on it, our family is on it and we are on it, all with tremendous success and health.

So instead of having one of our doctors further address these issues, we want to share with you what others are saying who are not connected to BodyLogicMD.  Below is a list of articles worth reading on your quest for research and we encourage you to do your own research as well.  Natural bioidentical hormones are not for everyone, but for those who do need it and for those who it is right for, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can be a savior.

Does the HCG Diet really work? Also, for the last year or so I have been having massive hair loss. Every time I shower the drain is full of my hair as well as my hair comb or brush!!! I have told my doctor and she doesn’t seem to care. I am a 52 year old female, I hardly have enough hair left to make a ponytail. PLEASE HELP!!! THANK YOU

      Hi Jan,

Our program includes bioidentical hormone therapy along with a customized fitness and nutrition program. We find that once our patients are able to balance their hormones, weight loss naturally takes place.

With regard to a specific diet, we make the following recommendations:
Eat five portion controlled meals a day. So in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, have a snack between lunch and dinner, and a small snack before bed.
During your meals, your plate should be 1/3 protein (white meat: chicken, turkey, fish, soy, eggs, and lean pork) and 2/3 colored vegetables (any vegetable that is colored, not white, all the way through). Add a sprinkle of olive oil, canola oil, or almonds for your fat.
Avoid sugar and sweet snacks. If it says “low fat” or “instant” on the package, put it back.
Eat all your vegetables and two hard fruits (if it crunches when you eat it, it’s GOOD FOR YOU!) every day.
Have a tablespoon of cod liver oil (fish oil) every day.
      Drink lots of water.

I hope you find a doctor who takes your concerns seriously and who is committed to finding a solution to your suffering.

      In health,
      Barbara at BodyLogicMD
